Supporting the Future of Risk Management

Given the uncertainty in higher education earlier in 2025, the URMIA Board of Directors decided to increase the number of scholarships available to ensure that members who wanted to attend the annual conference but were experiencing budget issues could still attend. This helped ensure money wasn't a barrier to risk managers discovering the latest in higher education risk management, letting them connect with their peers.

URMIA launched a learning management system, URMIAacademy, in October to continue its mission of offering the best and innovative workforce development to members. This platform allows members to learn asynchronously, meaning they can engage with the course content wherever and whenever they want. The inaugural course, "Essentials of Higher Education Risk Management," teaches users the foundational concepts needed to thrive in an institutional risk management environment.

Making an Impact with URMIAcares

URMIA attendees (both in-person and virtual) selected two causes in Las Vegas to help address: food insecurity and the ability for first responders to be better equipped with life-saving tools. Volunteers on site made 700 produce bags and 1,450 packaged snacks and lunches. Virtual attendees donated much-needed cash to Three Square, the same food bank that in-person volunteers visited in Las Vegas.

URMIA's 56th Annual Conference

2025 included another successful year for URMIA’s Annual Conference! In-person attendees were able to access 79 hours of educational content over three days' worth of education. URMIA's event continues to grow, having offered 95 sessions, which is 23 more than last year. We’re looking to build on our success in Philadelphia for 2026!

“I really enjoyed my first URMIA conference! The sessions were engaging, the speakers were knowledgeable, and it was well-organized. It was wonderful connecting with colleagues who share the same challenges and goals in risk management.”
– Stephanie Bloomingdale, Associate Director of Risk Management and Insurance, Trinity University
